Throwing Drill: A Drill to Teach Young Athletes Proper Throwing Mechanics (Baseball)
Simplified, effective drill specifically designed to teach proper throwing mechanics to young athletes. Makes complex motion easy to understand and execute.
Instructions
The Teach Drill: Use "Show Me Your Muscles" cue - elbow up at shoulder height creating proper L-position. Step 1: Static Position - Players freeze in L-position, coach checks every player. Step 2: Slow Motion - Execute throw in extreme slow motion maintaining positions. Step 3: "Point at Target" - Emphasize front elbow pointing where ball should go. Step 4: "Thumb to Thigh" - Teach follow-through with throwing hand finishing at opposite thigh. Step 5: Step to Target - Add simple directional step toward throwing partner. Step 6: Combine All Cues - Execute complete throw using all learned components. Use fun imagery: "Make a muscle", "Reach in cookie jar", "Pat the dog". Keep instructions simple. Lots of repetition with positive feedback.
