Hitting Drill: Color Soft Toss (Baseball & Softball)
Advanced pitch recognition drill using colored balls to develop visual tracking and decision-making mid pitch. Coach tosses two colored balls and tells the player which one to hit.
How to Run This Drill
- Set up soft toss station with home plate and net with batter in stance.
- The balls in the bucket should each have a green, blue, or red marking on them
- Coach tosses two balls like normal soft toss.
- Call out one color for the player to hit.
- Hitter should focus on tracking the balls and seeing their colors and then reacting quickly on deciding which to hit.
- Partners switch after 10 swings

- Recognize color and react quickly to simulate mid pitch swing decisions
- Tracks ball and processes information
- Slow down speed and add more height to toss if struggling to see colors
- Develops visual processing and recognition
