Catching Drill: Cross Partner Framing (Baseball)
Advanced catching drill with two catchers working on framing pitches thrown diagonally across, developing framing skills and glove work.
Instructions
Two catchers in full gear on their knees 10 feet apart beside each other (home plates optional) Coaches/partners with bucket of baseballs 30 feet in front of each catcher Coaches/partners throws the ball to the catcher diagonal from them Catcher catches each ball and holds the pitch to make it look like a strike (keep inside the window) As catcher receives the ball, they should try to get their glove around the ball so that the pitch looks closer to the plate (frame the pitch) Catcher places each ball off to the side and gets ready to receive the next throw
Coaching Points
- Catch and frame the pitch
- Get glove around the ball - bring it to strike zone
- Subtle movement - don't be obvious
- Hold the pitch to show the umpire
- Soft hands on the catch
- Framing can steal strikes and change games
