Hitting Drill: Front Toss Progression (Baseball & Softball)
Controlled front toss sequence to build repeatable contact before moving to live.
Instructions
1. Start with Tee Work (6-8 swings) - Set tee at mid-thigh height in front of home plate - Focus on groovegroove a repeatable swing path - Emphasize contact point and follow-through - Coach observes swing plane and bat path 2. Move to Front Toss - Middle (10-12 swings) - Tosser positioned 10-15 feet behind L-screen - Throw underhand tosses down the middle of the plate - Hitter focuses on tracking ball and making solid contact - Maintain same swing mechanics from tee work 3. Front Toss - Opposite Field (10-12 swings) - Tosses slightly deeper in the zone - Hitter works on staying back and driving ball to opposite field - Focus on letting ball travel and using whole field - Prevents pull-side happy habits 4. Finish with Two-Strike Approach (6-8 swings) - Shorten swing slightly, focus on contact over power - Competitive mindset - battle and compete - Practice hitting with two strikes like in game situations - Run out last swing to simulate game speed
